Pixel Roller Prototype One, Light Roller (Stuart Wood and Florian Ortkrass)

The "PixelRoller" project is a collabortive investigation into a new creative tool between Stuart Wood MA (RCA) Interaction Design and Florian Ortkrass MA (RCA) Design Products.

The pixel roller does exactly what it say it is, rolls pixels. It can be viewed like a hand printer, the pixel roller can roll out any image, video or text manually, at any speed or diraction, round corners and over surfaces.

In the first prototype, 'Light Roller', the pixels are in the form of a series of 12 ultra bright UV LEDs situated along its axis. These UV LEDs excite phosophescent ink and leave trails of pixels that fade with time.

We are currently developing a paint version that uses inks to paint directly onto any surface, be it wall, floor, paper, grass or parking area.

Click the image above to go to Pixel Roller > Gallery for full resolution images or go to Pixel Roller > Video for video clips of it in action. very cool btw.
